DEAREST HORSE:
On this cool, breezy, sunlit day
We come together in a sand-padded sacred space,
As if drawn together by an unseen force.
You stand so very close and breathe.
I feel the heat of your body and the warmth of your breath at my side.
You gently rub your soft, furry face on my arm.
This is so unlike you, with me.
I have seen you act like this, but only with others.
It shakes me deep within.
My heart speeds up. Yet I take deep breaths … slowly.
I don’t want this moment to end.
It feels so very sacred.
We stand together, quietly,
Your eye on me, mine on you, breathing in tandem,
In … out. In ... out.
I am transported out of time, with you.
There is only this moment filled with stillness and unity.
There is no you and me anymore.
There is just...this.
The gentle reciprocity of life.
Coming slowly out of this place of absolute quiet,
I realize the gifts you’ve given me.
But I don’t know how they’ve been given.
Self-recognition, self-acceptance,
Self-love, self-confidence.
You have shown me,
In the stillness lies all answers.
You have ever so gently shown me the way.
Be, listen, accept, act
Though no words were ever exchanged,
No physical contact was required.
Souls simply melt into each other.
You have shown me,
We are all One.

You came with raggedy, scarred edges, which I felt.
Yet, your heart and mind were open.
Over time, you watched and learned to respect our way of life.
You saw how we live in our herds.
You felt the unity, love and acceptance that we offer humanity.
We trust you now.
You show respect to our kind.
Our bond transcends time.
Yes, I have taught you much.
Are you aware you have also taught me?
I have experienced unconditional love from a human!!
That is huge for me.
I have guided you.
I needed to learn where your boundaries were.
Then I had to teach you to have boundaries and
How to act on them with love and compassion,
Not fear and aggression.
You have shown me that humans can learn from us.
I knew this, but you have demonstrated it to me.
Humans are capable of being
Different than what I had experienced.
You have shown me the power of a horse~human connection.
You have taught me that not all humans want to dominate.
It has taken me many years to accept this, but you persevered.
My herd-mates have helped me a lot.
I listened to them.
I watched you.
You see us as individuals with different wants and needs.
You respect that.
The other horses here trust you.
You taught me to trust.
This place is different than anywhere I’ve been.
This is all allowed.

I feel the weight of your head as it rests ever so gently and
Ever so briefly on my shoulder.
Tears well up in my eyes.
I close them.
I feel your love, your contentment, and your peace in the depths of my being.
My body is calm. I feel my heartbeat as you sigh.
I hear that contented, quiet sound and I smell your carrot-breath.
I am so incredibly blessed to be having this experience.
My heart expands and I think it might jump right out of my body.
Who knew this was even possible??
Slowly you move away from me.
I feel saddened that this time has ended.
I watch you circle around and around with your soft nose to the ground.
With a heavy thud, you lie down just a few feet away.
I am stunned!
I am humbled by your trust, which you don’t easily give.
You have shown me the ultimate, vulnerable position a horse can be in.
Again, tears well up and I choke them back.
I watch as you rest comfortably in the cool sand.
Your heavy breathing and still form send waves of gratitude
Throughout my body.
You do know I will never hurt you.
You do know how deeply our bond goes.
You do know that you are the shiniest of
All the Divine sparks in my life.
You know, as I now know, that we are not separate at all.
You rise majestically and shake the sand from your body.
Then, ever so gently, you touch your cool, soft muzzle to my hand.
The connection is complete. I envision the infinity symbol.
We have both been heard and felt.
I am in awe.
I wonder what you see when you look at me.
Each held close in Divine Intimacy.
You move slowly to my other side, and again, we match breaths.

Pat is an Advanced Certified FEEL (Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning) Facilitator. She intuitively knew there could be more to the horse~human relationship than she ever suspected. Horses have a way of being that is completely congruent to their innate nature, a skill that assists humans in all areas of their lives. These lessons bring a deeper emotional vitality, mental serenity and spiritual connection. They expand one’s consciousness. Pat has witnessed the deliberate intent of the horses to empower humans. This can take a lot of energy on their part. Pat’s role has changed to one of support for the horses in the clearing of the energy they take on.
