Welcome to Equine Leadership's Ninth Edition. The theme, to: Explore the Herd in the Open Field, and how that translates into wisdom for humanity. I asked each author to consider this and write as they were guided by their own hearts and the horses. To share the potential for positive change when humanity embraces the collective wisdom of the horse. When the horse~human relationship is offered from the heart, for the heart and because of the heart. The following articles are just that. Moments of time with the herds, domestic and wild. Moments spent in quiet contemplation. As well as time spent with humans and horses in active experiencing of the wisdom of the herd. Below you will find links to each remarkable article. Words and wisdom from both individuals and the collective, from both human and horse. Each in their own way, and together, will ultimately create the space for humanity to open their hearts and welcome a more peaceful and positive future for all.
Editor's Note
As I read each article, I began to see connections, words and wisdom from both individuals and the collective, from both humans and horses. Each author wrote from their perspective, yet those synchronicities arose, the words: invitation, wildness, weaving and love, just to name a few. I hope your heart feels the space between the words. This edition is about articulating a feeling. It is about exploring that sense of wonder. It is about the heart. I hope you hear the invitation from the herd.

WEATHERING THE STORM
How Horses Bring Us Together
Taylor Beckett, Canada
I saw the dark clouds rolling around us. I wasn’t worried, the rain always goes around my farm. I had never had a healing ceremony cancelled due to the weather. The twenty of us had been gathered for over an hour, setting the space and our intentions. The horses, who had been out grazing in the fifteen-acre field, had sensed we were preparing to go out to join them in their space and returned closer to the gate. It was always this way; the horses knew when they were needed and what was needed.

TREASURE HUNT
Debbie La-Haye, UK
Out in the green field, the man and the horse stand absorbed by each other as he love-bombs Sushi with words and gentle caresses.
“I love you. You’re wonderful. How can I help you? Let me know if I can do anything for you because you’re the one. It’s all about you”.

REAWAKENING OUR PEACEFUL NATURE
A Choice to Change the Story of Humanity
By: Greta Matos, Chile
Are you willing to let go of the stories you’ve been told, and the stories you tell yourself, about all the ways you must wrangle, dominate, and train the wildness within you, in order to “be acceptable”? Are you here, in this life, for the relationship or with an agenda? Are you here for connection or achievement? Are you able to relinquish your need to feel safe, only if you feel in control? Are you willing to slow down enough to feel the largeness of your spirit as it fills an entire field, embodying every stone, every blade of grass, every bird and breath and drop of water coursing through the wild river shaping the land?

THE LEGENDARY HORSES OF SABLE ISLAND
By: Jackie Ladouceur, Canada
Sable Island, the Crone and sacred keeper of wild and legendary horses that live within the perils of the sea. Three hundred kilometers across the Atlantic off the coast of Halifax, Nova Scotia she rests as a tiny crescent-shaped island of sand that, unimaginably, has held the history of her elusive wild horses, and their ancestors, for more than three hundred years. Taking flight to such a place holds the resonance of time travel, magically taking you back to long-forgotten aspects of yourself.

FOUR HORSES TWO WOMEN
A Story of Connection
By: Katherine Moffatt, Canada
One horse ascends into the realm of horse spirits.
His best friend, broken hearted follows 6 months later
They are a bonded pair, now together, side by side.
I feel their presence. They are guiding me.
They whisper, there are horses out there. I listen.
They whisper, go find them, the herd needs them, they need you.

SIMPLIFICATION AND LOVE
By: Kelly Smith Jones, U.S.A.
"What the soul cries out for is the resurrection of the senses. Even in this life, matter would be nothing to us if it were not the source of sensations." C.S. Lewis
The human condition is much improved by spending time with horses, but the explanation of this phenomenon is difficult to put into words. The ability horses possess to live in this present moment simply and energetically provides the human body with a sort of lighthouse in the storm.

WEAVING NEW MAPS
Connecting to Ancestral Yarns of the Herd
By: Caroline Burrow, Ireland
We may have many motivations for spending time with horses; we may be with them in a caregiving capacity, we may participate in sport or leisure with them, we may work with them for the purpose of education or therapy. In whatever role we hold, when we step into the field with the herd, we cannot escape the ancestral binding that we have with this other species. Horses and humans have stood alongside each other for 1000s of years, and whenever we are in a presence of a horse this bond is active in the phenomenological field.

A Survivor Story
By: Eleni Argy, Australia
"It's like I'm looking in the mirror and seeing myself for the first time."
Lilian had never looked so deeply into the eyes of a horse. Not like this. She saw her soul reflected in those eyes. She saw her freedom. She found her peace.
Lilian was a survivor of slavery… yes, real slavery.

THERE IS A FIELD. I'LL MEET YOU THERE
And There Will Be Horses
By: Lynda Watson, Canada
Rumi’s famous poem states: “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
Many interpretations have evolved from Rumi’s piece. Some suggest that he is exploring our connection to the spiritual. Others explore the concept of non-judgment. Let us head to the field and take Rumi’s poem along for consideration. A herd of gentle horses will meet us there. Horses that live as close to nature and as authentically as possible. Alongside the herd you might feel what Rumi is trying to convey with his poem.
