EDITOR'S NOTE
“His more than 600kg (1350lbs) meets the earth through four large hooves, solid, steady and this helps people feel safe, feel grounded”
I think this quote from one of our 7th edition authors, Judy Brightman, really sums up the voice of the horse in Equine Leadership. Be it the individual that takes time out of their busy schedule to slow down and be with a horse or humanity that needs that feeling of being safe and grounded at this time in human history.
Our vision at Equine Leadership has always rested in the belief that horses, living as close to nature as possible, can provide a model of living that is clear, authentic and heart-based. It aims to broaden the scope of the Horse ~ Human relationship by sharing that model of living which can move us towards a more peaceful and positive world. A model that can assist humanity in creating a brighter future for all. Animal, nature, human, the planet ~ ALL.
We have shared this vision for 7 years now on multiple platforms and have heard from over 50 authors from around the world. Although some changes will happen this year, we are not losing steam, just adjusting to the times and global environment just as the horses adjust to the environment, they are in. We have made the decision to not go forward with a hard copy magazine at this time. For a number of reasons this is just not sustainable this year. We are looking at other options and hope to have some exciting new ways to share the voice of the authors and the horses in the very near future.
And now, on to Equine Leadership Edition 7. I would like to thank all of the authors and horses so very, very much for their wisdom and for being able to articulate that wisdom in so many diverse and digestible ways. Thank you to the horses that stepped forward to share their wisdom and voice. We hear you! And we continue to work diligently to amplify your voices, one single horse or the equine collective. It really does shine through in this edition.
When I read all of the articles, I really felt the energy of the horses first and foremost. When I finished reading each article, I was so drawn to just sit with the energy and the feelings that it invoked. Beyond words. What a beautiful deep feeling. The next essence I feel from the articles is community or herd. The need for and the support that horses share with each other and the need for us to do the same. How fitting for the world we live in at the moment. I know the theme is 'dissolving barriers' and I believe each article shares a way through those barriers we all face at some time or other.
And so, it gives me great honour to introduce you to a very special herd of authors that have come to us from every continent on the planet minus Antarctica. As well as a very very special community of young horse~human experts to share their answers to the question: What wisdom are the horses here to teach us?
Greta Matos starts us off with As Nature Intended. An intimate look into authentic companionship in life and death. We next dip into the space between human and horse in Synchronicity by Fotini Chandrika. Then head to a beautiful 1,000 acre farm to learn about Confident Vulnerability by Suzanne Carter and her horse, Harmony. Kerri Lake takes us into the field of Non-Linear Communication and how horses remind us of our innate relationship with life. We are then asked to recall the incredible power of listening in Nikki Kagan’s Why Speak When No One Listens? Next, we are off to Raleigh, North Carolina (USA) where Kim Hallin shares with us the beginnings and some beautiful results of her Urban Connections program in The Healing Power of Being Seen & Understood. We then jet off to Australia where Judy Brightman communicates how the horses can guide us to Calmness, Connection, Compassion. Shellie Kwitkowski’s article, How Horses Help Veterans Heal blends research and anecdotal accounts to articulate how veterans are finding some valuable healing alongside horses. Alecia Maine tells us of Inferno’s Journey. In this story of a wild mustang, we are reminded of the vital connection between Body, Breath, Brain and Behaviors. Diana Gogan shares 2 beautiful stories of beliefs, boundaries and freedom in Without a Word. Next, we get a special delivery from Julia Fenton in Letter From the Herd. And yours truly brings us back home in OMG where I deconstruct the oh so common acronym and see it through the Vantage Point of the Horse.
Even pulling all of the articles together creates such a beautiful collective feeling. Like a herd of beautiful horses grazing peacefully.
Thank you, the reader, for hearing the voice of the horse. Thank you for listening within to hear the whisper. You are here. I hope you absorb from these articles what it is you came here for. Although we often don’t know until the horses speak and we are ready to hear. I hope you are ready. There is so much love and compassion in these articles. I hope you feel it as much as I did when putting it all together. Thank you once more to the authors and the horses. Their contact information is with each article. Please look them up, reach out. And if an article or the whole magazine touches you, please ‘share it forward’. Our vision is to make the horse~human connection accessible to all. We can see a better world for the individual and the collective when we share the voice and the wisdom of the horse.
