INDIGO
The Paris Kollection Equine Elder Bio
Indigo’s Human Caretaker: Anna-Marie Duffy, Ailsa Craig, Ontario
Trips around the sun: ~35
Indigo is a chestnut paint quarter horse with a beautiful pie-bald face. She has one sky blue eye and one earth brown eye.
Here is Indigo’s story as told by her human, Anna-Marie.
Indigo and I met in early 2016 when she was in her late twenties. She arrived at the barn with two other horses with whom she was closely bonded. Once she settled in, she began to relax into her new surroundings. Her owner ran into financial difficulties and there was an offer for me to purchase Indigo in the summer of 2016. We have been partnered ever since! Since that summer, she and I have moved to several barns as we pursued opportunities to integrate the Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning (FEEL) approach into our way of being. She is a very independent horse who is always with her herd and yet slightly apart from the other horses. Indigo has participated in workshops and has seen multiple clients individually. I know very little about her history prior to meeting her. What I do know is that she had a foal a few years before we met, likely when she was twenty-five years of age (unplanned from what I understand). I've attempted to find her foal, and unfortunately, I've not had any success with this endeavour. Indigo is quite happy where she is living now and does kick up her heels from time to time! She lives at a boarding barn and enjoys her herd and the barn manager tremendously. She occasionally sees clients with me by her side under Habitual Phoenix Coaching.
Indigo is a very loving and present horse who has grown into a wise crone in her later years; ever more present and gentler as she ages. I love her soft, loving, grandmother presence most. She has recently earned the nickname of Nanna at the barn! As Indigo has become accustomed to living a life with no riding and more choice over the last eight years, she seizes her daily senior life with grace and inner fortitude.
She has been such an amazing teacher for me, showing me patience, improving the quality of my presence, encouraging me to stand my ground, and training me to enjoy life in the moment. I love her dearly!
